NBA Anti-Money Laundering Committee
About The Committee
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Anti-Money Laundering Committee (AMLC) was created as part of the commitment of the NBA to ensuring that its members, as a self-regulating profession, are aware of and alive to the national and international anti-money laundering (AML) regulations to which the country has subscribed.
This commitment requires the educating of members of the NBA about AML laws, providing guidelines for compliance, promoting awareness of financial crimes, and fostering cooperation with regulatory bodies such as the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU).
The NBA AMLC also plays an important role in advocating for the legal profession's adherence to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) recommendations and other international standards aimed at preventing money laundering and terrorist financing.

NBAAMLC National Risk Assessment (NRA) 2026-2027 Data Collection
The Nigerian Bar Association Anti-Money Laundering Committee (NBAAMLC) is currently spearheading the legal sector's contribution to Nigeria's National Risk Assessment (NRA) 2026-2027. This data collection exercise is pivotal in sustaining the gains of Nigeria's landmark removal from the FATF Grey List in 2025.
The legal profession in Nigeria has shown remarkable resilience and commitment to global financial integrity standards. Since the gazetting of the Rules of Professional Conduct (RPC) 2023, practitioners have increasingly embraced their roles as "Gatekeepers." However, to ensure that the legal sector remains a pillar of national security and economic stability, we require empirical data to identify emerging vulnerabilities and evaluate the effectiveness of existing internal controls.
The information provided will assist the NBAAMLC in defending the integrity of the profession and shaping a supervisory framework that protects lawyers from being inadvertently used in illicit financial schemes.
